Are You Ready To Buy Used Clothes?

Thank author of this post/comment

One will never catch me purchasing used clothing, for the reasons that I am not too keen on wearing anything that somebody else has already worn in the past. However, this is a personal decision that not everyone shares. If anything, buying and selling used clothing have become very common practices in many places.

Whenever I talk to someone who thinks that buying used clothes is OK, I am often told that just because someone wears used clothing does not mean he/she has to tell it to anyone. It's not something that is easily verified if the used clothing pieces are handled well after the purchase. What's better, according to them, is the fact that you can easily save a lot of money by choosing to purchase used clothes.

Don't get overwhelmed, though. Yes, there are so many selections to choose from and you could probably end up purchasing the entire lot, but do take note in these tips given to me before you decide to embrace this kind of culture:

  1. Set a budget. As I have mentioned in the previous paragraph, it is easy to get overwhelmed with the cheapness of all these clothes, you can purchase an entire sack without knowing it. Set a budget, as if you would shop somewhere else, in order to know your limit.
  2. Check the washing instructions. This is assuming that you even plan to wash the clothes before using it (please do!). Usually, washing your used clothes in lukewarm water is enough to kill off any bacteria that may live in there.
  3. Learn to haggle. I know it may sound inconsiderate, given that prices are already extremely low. However, since there are thrift shops, you might as well maximize it and try to convince the sellers to price it lower.
  4. Ask when shops refill their stocks. These thrift shops regularly replace and rotate their stocks with fellow thrift shops. Ask anyone in the used clothing store where you buy when they will replace their stocks just so you could have more choices.
  5. Never buy underwear. I don't know, but I've seen these pieces of clothing reaching the shelves of thrift shops. It's disgusting to say the last. Now if you still think it is worth buying, then buy at your own risk!
