I have a lot of shirts with the gingham pattern in it. Many people confuse gingham with checkered patterns and usually use the latter term for the former. What differentiates the two is that checkered patterns are supposed to be two-toned, unlike gingham which uses a series of shades. However, gingham patterns are actually derived from checkered fabric.
Gingham patterns are stereotypically used for country clothing, with cowboys and cowgirls usually wearing the fabric everytime, everywhere. This stereotype has later caught on with the general populace, allowing the design to become more popular among ordinary people, city folks mostly. What makes gingham patterns good to look at--at least for me--is that they have the attitude even though they look so solid and so neutral. I particularly like black ginghams, although other colors, like red, blue, and gray, are good to look at as well. Gingham shirts are usually worn with ordinary jeans owing to their cowboy stereotype. I have not tried wearing gingham shirts with slacks, as slacks are worn with solid-colored formal shirts, but I suppose they would also look good albeit less formal. I usually tuck in my gingham shirt because they look much more body-fit that way. For girls, jeans with gingham prints are also the way to go. Just wear a pair of high-heels with it for a modern appeal to it. Other footwear types that go along with gingham are pumps, flats, or maybe even slippers if you are a bit adventurous with what you wear. Clothes with repetitive patterns like gingham or polka dots have been designed to become eye catchers. They direct where your eyes usually fall on so they can be overwhelming at times when there's just too much accessories on you. That is why for gingham prints, accessories are discouraged most of the time. If you want less attention to be directed to you, wear ginghams that have limited contrasting features. For example, you can wear gray-and-white gingham prints instead of black-and-white. You can talk about...
