When it comes to occassions where men are required to come in formal outfit (such as weddings and parties), nothing beats tuxedos. To a certain extent, tuxedos are actually expected to be worn in these kinds of events since men only have few options when it comes to formalwear. Unfortunately, like any other piece of formal clothing, wearing a tuxedo and, in particular, a tuxedo vest, is complicated. Picking the right tuxedo vest is even more complicated.

Like with any other clothes, it is important that a man picks the right fit for a tuxedo vest. Let's face it. So many men have this bad habit of picking clothes that are too large for them. Tuxedo vests should be fitting and their ends have to be an inch longer than the belt level at the very most. Picking the wrong fit could drastically make you look awful in your tuxedo, so pay attention!

Color is also of utmost importance. As a general rule, if you are going to have the same coat and tie/bow color, your vest should have a different color, but the vest can have the same color as the tie/bow as long as the coat's color is different. The color of the vest should also be contrasting with the color of your dress shirt. That rule is pretty simple but many people tend to miss it.

When wearing, first put your dress shirt on and tuck it underneath your pants. Afterwards, put on your tie or your bow tie. Put on the best and button it, but don't tuck it inside your pants. Also make sure that your tie is not puffing out of your vest. Lastly, put on the coat and if you have a handkerchief (which you should have), place it inside your vest.

Also remember that you are not supposed to wear a belt with tuxedo vests. Use suspenders instead. You also cannot wear tuxedo vests with double breasted or shawl-collared tuxedos.
